Benzoyl peroxide is one of the most widely prescribed topical treatments for acne vulgaris. It kills Cutibacterium acnes through oxidative action, reduces comedonal plugging, and — unlike antibiotics — does not promote bacterial resistance. Topical benzoyl peroxide works through three mechanisms:
